Earth Meld

I'm so happy with this one.

As I am managing to (finally) start mastering White Wolf's Vampire: The Masquerade, and therefor learning more about the World of Darkness, and as I browsed around dA and came across a beatiful deviation that inspired me (see * on the bottom), my idea was to represent in a personal, artistic way some interesting aspects of the Disciplines of the vampires.

This means to be the first one, and I am intentioned to continue the series while I'm inspired.

This one is the third "dot" of the Protean discipline, also called "Earth Meld" or "Interred in the Earth" (in the Dark Ages). Using this power, the vampire is able to merge with the soil and rest within the earth. However, when one with the ground, the vampire exists in a hybrid form between the physical plane (if you dig to reach his/her body in the soil, you encounter solid rock) and the Penumbra (one of the spiritual planes of the World of Darkness).

Intuitively, the girl in the deviation is resting in a state which is partially different from that of the common world. I tried to render this aspect by making her skin stoney and grainy. However, seeing her means merging and visualizing two different planes (in symbols, the underground part and the aboveground part) in which she is present and not present at the same time. In fact, you can't say that she is not part of the aboveground (or you would not be able to see her), but physically she's not. At the same way, you can't say that she is not part of the underground (because her position is under the surface) but actually she's not.

What is important is that she is resting; but in the World of Darkness some think that a huge number of vampires are currently resting in the earth, some of them from millennia, just waiting for the chance to wake up and rise.

The Protean discipline belongs to the Gangrel clan, the Outlanders, only.
In my mother language (italian), "Earth Meld" is traslated as "Fondersi con la terra", that actually means "Merge with the earth".

* I took the original idea from [link] by `AquaSixio and found it extremely interesting. I kept the scheme because I found it very appropriated for the theme I was going to represent, which is, on the contrary, slightly different.
