Singularity

Description

I personally won't be upset if there will be someone (or, more probably, a lot of people) that will not understand this piece: the first reason is that the subject basically comes from an idea of mine about a novel I am definitly going to write before I die (so, I hope, I have an amount of time left); the second reason is that you are probably not familiar with the idea of singularity.

A gravitational singularity is a point of the spacetime continuum where quantities which are used to measure the gravitational field become infinite, or, as I prefer to define it, a point in which a gravitational well becomes sharp, so that nothing can escape the gravitational field.
In other words: a black hole.

I may give a more detailed explanation, but this is not the reason why we are here. Actually, I tried to represent the strange way a place would look like if it was enclosed into what I call a pocket dimension (see [link]), which could be a particular bend of the spacetime, in the case I conceive a 4-dimensional (or n-dimensional) 'bubble' which has the spacetime developed in the inner part of it (thus the curvature of the environments I represented).

For me, it is not important whether the conditions we would observe into this kind of places (if they exist or, more importantly, if we will ever be able to reach them) are similir to those we know or not.
What is really important is what you experience: so, in every moment of our life, we ourselves consist in a singularity (in its meaning of being singular) because we find ourselves in different conditions of the spacetime. We are not able to visit a certain place in a certain time twice.

So, not only you are a singularity in this very moment, but also you can consider yourself different from what you were, for example, when you started reading this comment (and you have to be brave!). What is important is not what you were before, or what you will be after (these states are just vanishing and senseless), but what you are now and here, because you contain both your past (which led you to this very moment) and your future (for it will move from what you are now).

The three girls in the piece, that are obviously to be considered the same person, don't necessarly have, however, a linear spacetime connection between them (the dress, in fact, is different, even if I wanted to keep the constant white colour as a symbol of unicity) but can be read as a continuum of 'moments' from the left to the right, from the desperation of feeling lost to the surprise in front of the unknown.

Past. Present. Future.

In the Past you face what you had and, so, what you lost.
In the Future you face what you don't have yet, and so what you don't know.

However, if you focus on the center figure, you will notice that, while the other two moments experience the interaction with the environment, she remains impassive.
This moment is, so, the present moment, the singularity, completely aware of this condition of total unicity, on one hand because a moment is unique, on the other because, actually, in every moment you are the only thing really existing in the Universe.
All the other things are nothing but what you see, what you feel, what you experience.

In the Present, you face what you have now, and so what you actually are now.

The center, the singularity, is you.

It's easy to understand why I chose to place the scene (or part of it) on a bridge, which symbolizes the connection. You, however, may have one last question: what does the 'upside down' hut in the upper part mean?
It would not be true if I say that it has no meaning; actually, it has two: the first is the intention to revive the surreal view of the upper landscape, and to give the subject a flavour of humanity (because it is totally human and not far and abstract as most people can think); the second is a secret, for it's related to the novel..

This is what I want to express, and I hope you understand, but if you don't I'm sure I am the one to blame.
Thanks for the attention, anyway.
It would be better to fullview if you want to focus on the details.

When I created this piece, I didn't realize that it also recalls the way in which `dinyctis made some of his wonderful deviations. Though my idea comes from a different motive, I am proud anyway.

Ho letto qualcosa riguardo alle singolaritΓ , tempo fa.
Hai fatto un ottimo lavoro, che rende benissimo il concetto che vuoi esprimere :)
